Boston, Mass., (September 26, 2014) – National telehealth leader American Well announced today that when patients use the Amwell™ App on an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 8, they will be able to share health data from Apple’s new Health app with a doctor during their video visit. Consumers can choose to share metrics such as heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, blood glucose levels, weight, nutritional information, and respiratory rate. These metrics will allow physicians to better understand a patient’s lifestyle and provide a more comprehensive assessment of their health and fitness.
“HealthKit is a major advance in healthcare,” said Roy Schoenberg, MD, CEO of American Well. “For the first time, we can make a connection between consumer health data on your iPhone and a doctor that visits your home over video. This opens a world of opportunity, with increased access to care for people everywhere and better care of patients with chronic conditions.”
The Amwell App will begin accepting data from Health with the release of iOS 8. From within the Amwell App, a user will be prompted to give their permission to share the Health data with their doctor, which will feed into the health summary section of their American Well account. American Well gives consumers direct access to their choice of U.S. board-certified doctors.
The Amwell App is available for free from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.AppStore.com.
