MIAMI, FL – August 10, 2016 – Today, Baptist Health South Florida announced its partnership with telehealth technology company American Well for the launch of Baptist Health Care On Demand, a platform that provides patients with immediate virtual access to a Board-certified doctor for live, on-demand video visits over the Internet via an app.

The platform is for non-emergency medical care, and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with no appointment required. Users are able to visit clinicians through secure interactive video from home, work or on the go, and get medical advice and treatment for conditions like mild asthma, minor headaches, sprains, nausea, vomiting, sore throats, minor allergic reactions, ear and sinus pain, eye infections and flu-like symptoms.

Emergency medicine physician David Mishkin, M.D. will lead the effort as medical director for Care On Demand. “This new platform provides patients with a new option that complements traditional healthcare,” said Dr. Mishkin. “It expands access to quality care, allowing you to conveniently communicate with a doctor through an interactive live video and audio chat to discuss treatment and ask questions. And if a prescription is needed, the doctor can have it sent directly to a pharmacy of your choice.”

During a Care On Demand visit, a provider will review the patient’s clinical information, speak with and see the patient through HD video, prescribe medications as needed, and suggest follow-up care. Care On Demand patients will also receive an e-mail record of their interaction, which they can share with their other providers if they choose.

“We have always had a keen interest in healthcare innovation,” said Brian Keeley, president and chief executive officer for Baptist Health South Florida. “This new platform is one more way for people to access care – and in an affordable and convenient way.”

Dr. Mishkin joined Baptist Hospital Emergency Department in 2010. As medical director for Baptist Health Care On Demand, he will focus his efforts on integrating Telehealth as a means to improve accessibility and support the advances in medical technology.

All information provided when enrolling, including credit card numbers and personal health details, is secure. The doctor visit is private and protected and follows HIPAA guidelines for patient safety and confidentiality.

“As an organization known for their medical expertise, Baptist Health South Florida is using American Well’s technology to extend their reach, leverage their clinical assets and strengthen how they deliver care. This infrastructure will enable Baptist Health to develop new relationships with patients – wherever they may be – offering care continuity and care in the home,” said Danielle Russella, President, Client Solutions. “We are proud to work alongside such a leading world-class health organization to bring quality care to patients and families across the country.”

The platform used for this app was created by doctors and was the first telehealth service awarded accreditation by the American Telemedicine Association. For more information, download Baptist Health Care On Demand in the app store or visit BaptistHealth.net/CareOnDemand.
